Dr Taniuchi is concurrently Team Leader Laboratory for Transcriptional Regulation, RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences and Adjunct Professor at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Keio University, Chiba University in Japan.
Dr Taniuchi is a molecular immunologist and his research interest is how development and function of the immune system is regulated at the transcriptional level. He has been working to understand roles of transcription factors regulating immune cell development. His particular interest is how fate decision by T cell precursors in the thymus is regulated under T cell receptor signaling. Dr Taniuchi’s works has contributed to unravel roles of Runx transcription factor family during immune cell development. He discovered essential roles of Runx3 in driving developmental program toward CD8+ cytotoxic T cells.
Dr Taniuchi received his M.D., PhD. from Kyushu University in 1996. He is a Member of the Japanese Society for Immunology (JSI) and received the JSI award in 2013.
