Abstract

The field of gastric cancer is evolving at a rapid pace. Whilst many of these advances have targeted the disease at the molecular level, surgery remains one of the cornerstones of treatment. Latest advances in technology have been applied for gastric cancer surgery such as the use of indocyanine green – near infra-red for lymph node dissection, artificial intelligence (AI) for multidisciplinary tumour board decision making, AI with three-dimensional computed tomography reconstruction for pre-op planning and intra-op guidance, robotic surgery, and reduced port surgery. Some of these innovations will be discussed here, with a view of how gastric cancer surgery may be performed in the future.
