Dr Chris received his PhD from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Ludwig Cancer Center under the direction of Drs Bert Vogelstein, Ken Kinzler, Nick Papadopoulos. After his postdoc, he became faculty in the Department of Oncology at Johns Hopkins.
His group uses machine learning and next generation sequencing to develop improved computational algorithms and molecular diagnostics. His early publications developed bioinformatics algorithms to predict the impact of genetic variation on disease. More recently, his efforts focused on developing novel molecular diagnostics and predictive algorithms of somatic alterations—specifically aneuploidy–for the earlier detection of cancer. The research projects have resulted in 6 publicly available software packages and more than 30 peer reviewed publications.
